WRITER &
ACTOR
FOR HIRE
Minda Wei
Filmmaker
a very
serious
artist
Minda Wei is a queer Chinese-Texan writer, SAG-AFTRA actor, and
filmmaker based in LA. Minda writes fast and furious comedy for punks of
all ages about surviving late capitalism. They used to say "my characters
blow their lives up so I don't have to" until they quit a job building the
world’s fastest supercomputer, got straight-divorced, and moved cross-
country after the Texas freeze tried to kill them and everyone they’ve ever
loved.
Minda was named one of ISA’s ‘Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch’ and has
won the LearningTimes Emerging Filmmaker Grant & Austin Chronicle’s
“Best of Austin” Comedy Critics’ Pick. They story edited two seasons of
Spotify Studio’s critically-acclaimed ‘FOGO: Fear of Going Outside’
Podcast, serve as director emeritus of Austin Sketch Fest, and have by-lines
in Slate, Bon Appetit, and GEN Magazine. They peaked comedically on Las
Culturistas with ‘I Don’t Think So, Honey, Geysers’.
In their free time, they’re in their stinky little dude era. Too old to skate, too
young to die, they’ve started a band instead. Catch them headlining a kids’
guitar recital near you.
